Discharged about April 26, 1865 at Bentonville, N.C. Born February 11, 1833 in Georgia. Died August 12, 1910. Buried in a marked grave in Concord Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery, Randolph County, Alabama. He was married to Augusta Ann McMurray and the son of William Coates and Elizabeth Crawley Adamson.

Enlisted April 28, 1862 and mustered into service at Loachapoka May 16, 1862. Captured at Champions Hill (Bakers Creek) May 16, 1863 and admitted to Prison Hospital at Champions Hill, Mississippi with a compound fracture to the left humerus. Appears on Register of POWs at Fort Delaware, Delaware. Appears on a Department of the Cumberland Register of POWs as captured November 12, 1863 at Lookout Valley. Listed on a roll of rebel deserters within the lines of the Department of the Cumberland and received at the Military Prison, Louisville, Kentucky. Took the Oath of Allegiance to the U.S. and was sent north of the Ohio River by order of Brig. General Boyle. Born 1830 and died February 1898. Buried in Mt. Prospect Baptist Cemetery, Randolph County, Alabama. His wife, Margaret Cumby was born in 1840 and died May 17, 1898. They had ten children: sons - Reuben, George, Monroe, Charlie, and Cumby; daughters - Mollie, Ollie, Arilla, Anna, and Ethel.

Robert E. Lee, C. S. A., commanding said Army, to Lieut. Gen. U. S. Grant, commanding Armies of the United States.” Found on a Roster of Confederate Soldiers buried in the Confederate Section of Old City Cemetery, Lynchburg, Virginia.

According to pension records he died 20 Feb 1916. According to family he was buried at Forresters's Chapel in Randolph County, Alabama. He was married three times. His first wife Permelia E. Nunn died 20 July 1899. She is buried at Rock Springs Cemetary in Randolph Co. Alabama. Although his pension record after his death listed his place of birth as Muscogee County, Georgia a census record indicates that he may have been born in Talbot County, Georgia.

Paroled in May, 1865 at Raleigh, N. C. Born May 16, 1841 in Cusseta, Alabama. Lived in Randolph County prior to the war and in Clay County after mustering out of service. Died May 13, 1928. Buried in Cragford Cemetery, Clay County, Alabama. He was survived by two sons, Charley James and Leonidus(-as) McVey.
