HdQrs 46th Regt. Ala. Vol.
near Atlanta, Ga. July 14th, 1864
Genl. S. Cooper
Sir, I have the honor to report, as a name worthy to be dropped from the roll of Officers that of 1st Lt. A. J. Vickers of Co "D" 46th Regt. Ala. Vol. On the night of the 12th of May 1864, when the army fell back from Dalton, he with six of his company fell out of the ranks within three miles of the place of starting and neither he or the men have since been seen by any of the command. The march was short, feeble men kept along with the troops; and several hours after, the picket passed over the same road. A highly respectable Sergt. C. Swindol of the regiment, heard him say a short time before, that "he would walk fifty miles to vote for the abolition of slavery." The remark was make after he was promoted to a lieutenancy.
Very Respectfully
Your Able Servt.
