From October 9-19, 1863 he was hospitalized for debilitis (abnormal bodily weakness or feebleness) at the 1st Mississippi C. S. A. Hospital, Jackson, Mississippi. Recaptured
at Nashville December 16, 1864, sent to Military Prison in Louisville, Kentucky, and on to Camp Chase, Ohio. Took oath of allegiance to the U.S. June 12, 1865. In 1865 was 27 years old, stood 5'5 3/4", had gray eyes, dark hair, and dark complexion.

Died May 30, 1865 at Camp Douglas of “Int. Fever”. Buried in Grave #1171, Block 3, Chicago City Cemetery.
